The Challenges of Harry

(Source: MSNBC.msm.com) "Mary GrandPre sounds just like a parent when she talks about Harry. She sees herself in him - a little bit in the eyes, something in the line of his jaw. But that lightning bolt-shaped scar? Hey, that's not from her side of the family.

The Harry in question? Harry Potter, of course. GrandPre is the artist behind the images of Harry seen on the American versions of the books by author J.K. Rowling. Her latest cover, for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was released Tuesday. The book, sixth in the series of seven, comes out July 16.

Of course, it's Rowlings' imagination that conjured up young wizard Harry's description - black, unruly hair; green eyes behind glasses, and, don't forget, that scar on his forehead, courtesy of You-Know-Who. (If you Don't-Know-Who, you probably won't be reading this article anyway.)

But it was GrandPre, 51, of Sarasota, Fla., who has been drawing him for the cover of each blockbuster book, as well as creating the illustrations that come at the start of each chapter. She's drawn him from a boy of 11 in book one to age 16 in book six.

"It's a challenge to take a character . . . and make sure he ages correctly and make sure he looks like he would look if he were to get a year older," she told The Associated Press. "I feel like I'm his mom, I comb his hair or I mess it up, I make sure he looks good before he goes out the door." "

Casting for OotP will Begin this Fall

Veritaserum.com has received word from Danielle Symonds of Enchantment Casting about some Order of the Phoenix casting information. According to information Ms. Symonds received from Heyday Films, casting for Order of the Phoenix will begin this fall and filming will begin in January of 2006. A casting director has not yet been appointed, so nothing is happening at the moment.

According to CBBC Newsround chances for open casting calls like those used in GoF to cast Cho Chang, Krum and the Patil Twins are unlikely. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. told CBBC Newsround: "We don't automatically do open casting calls. We only do them when it's particularly challenging to find the correct person for a particular part." Casting characters such as Luna Lovegood or Umbridge are unlikely to pose the same level of difficulty.

Happy Birthday Miranda!

Born in England on March 3rd 1958, Miranda Richardson turns 47 today. She will appear in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this fall playing the obnoxious journalist Rita Skeeter.

This is not the first time Ms. Richardson has been connected with Harry Potter, however. In 2003, she did a particularly insulting impersonation of Hermione in "Harry Potter and the Secret Chamberpot of Azibaijan", a Comic Relief sketch. (Source:Imdb)

I wish I had seen that. Anyone catch it?
