Quidditch in Muggle land

Imaginative P.E. teacher translates 'Harry Potter' game for play in yards, gyms.

A highlight of any "Harry Potter" tale is its look at Quidditch, a soccer-like game wizards play on flying brooms.

Its dazzling special effects - both on the mind and on the big screen - are a key component of Potter creator J.K. Rowling's magical formula for getting video-saturated kids excited about reading again.

But there's no way for us mere "Muggles" (Rowling's term for ordinary humans) to partake of a sport that requires one to fly 50 feet high.

Well, maybe there is.

Better Homes and Gardens magazine's current issue tells how Jodi Palmer, a grade-school physical education teacher in Ohio, adapted Quidditch for ground-level play in a back yard or a gym after she and her kids saw the first Potter movie.
